rally today
OK, so this isn't really media related... but BEN HARPER will be there performing and it's a really good cause if anyone can make it. There are free buses there and back.
TODAY AT 4:30 PM THERE WILL BE A RALLY FOR IMMIGRANT WORKERS' RIGHTS. HERE IS A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE EVENT. We're meeting at 10th and Columbia in front of Scripps Admission at 2:30. Please bring yourself and whoever else is willing to rally for this cause!
Join us on September 28th as immigrant workers begin a new stage of the immigrant rights movement by demanding that the hotels along Century Corridor provide good jobs that pay living wages and allow immigrant workers to rise out of poverty. Our march on Century Blvd. will culminate in hundreds of immigrants, workers, community members, clergy, students and other activists protesting in one of the largest acts of non-violent civil disobedience in the history of Los Angeles.
The LAX Century Corridor is Los Angeles’ largest tourism sector and the home of over a dozen hotels that employ thousands of immigrant workers. Yet, despite rising hotel room rates, hotel workers on the century corridor earn 20% less than hotel workers in Los Angeles County as a whole. Many of the immigrant workers employed in the hotels along the Century Corridor also live in the surrounding communities of Lennox, Hawthorne, and Inglewood, where one in four residents lives below the poverty line and 40% of children come from poor households. This means that poverty wages not only affect immigrant workers and their families, but impact immigrant communities as well.
The labor of immigrants should be valued and respected! Help us stop the hotel
industries exploitation of immigrant workers!
Join thousands of hotel workers, students, community members as we march and hundreds of us risk arrest in one of the largest acts of non-violent civil disobedience in the history of Los Angeles. There's not a lot of time left to mobilize the Claremont Colleges! We need to try to get as many people as we can to attend the rally. We have two buses that need to be full when we head to Century Blvd. on September 28th! We're meeting at 10th and Columbia in front of Scripps Admission at 2:30. Please bring yourself and whoever else is willing to rally for this cause!
