more on playstation
I decided to do more research into the launch of Playstation 3. Conclusion, it is a little insane. My boyfriend is included in this madness though, so I suppose I can’t judge too harshly. He has been outside of Target since last night, the Playstation doesn’t come out until Fri morning. (don’t get me started on what I think about that)
So here is the plan. Go to Target today, line up, buy a Playstation then sell it on E-bay to pay for my grad school. Anyone want to join? But then I heard that people did this with the Xbox 360 and there wasn’t enough of a demand for them to really inflate the prices on e-bay. I guess they had struggled to get their release date out before the Playstation and Nintendo and because of this there was some glitches. Seems like there is going to be major high-powered, high-tech game system saturation to me.
The Playstation is soo expensive though. I mean I thought that these gaming systems were meant for the average American. I know if I had a teen obsessed with gaming systems begging for this for x-mas I would have to say ‘better luck next year bud’. Walmart is selling the 20 GB version for $499 and the 60GB version for $599. I mean kids can get ponies and dirt bikes for that. And this is only the console. The games are selling for $60 dollars each. My boyfriend said he thinks he will end up spending about $800 dollars on Fri. (again, don’t get me started)
I know I am not a lover (of gaming that is), so I can’t understand the passion that drives people to line up for hours and pay this price. I am just saying that I feel bad for the parents who are going to be harassed for hours to buy this contraption they can’t afford.

yeah, I don't get it
I, like you, have no idea what the big deal is with the releases of these game consoles that cost more than well, a lot of things. Maybe I don't get it because I was never allowed to play/own/watch video games as a child or teenager, even at friends houses. But still, it seems a bit ridiculous to give up such a large part of your life for a video game. Everyone has their passions, though... to each their own.
target
Leaving Target yesterday afternoon, I saw a group of people sitting on lawn chairs on the side of the store, and they were "fenced off" with some of that white plastic chain. At first I thought, "ooh! a protest!', but I saw no signs, then I thought they were selling something, but there were no boxes of candy, then I realized, they were waiting in line for Playstation. Now that is determination. And again I'm reminded of Cartman in South Park, pacing in front of the store, waiting for the Wii to come out.
Crazy or totally worth it?
I too thought the idea of sitting in front of Target or Best Buy for three days to get a gaming system was a little nuts myself. Don't you people have jobs?? But then I heard that the PS3 will likely go for more than $1,500 on ebay. I don't think I ever made 500 dollars a day for sitting on my ass. Maybe these people are on to something.
