Bravia!

While I was at home, I saw a commercial for the new Sony Bravia LCD television. It’s the newest in a series of commercials for the television. Some of you may have seen the superball commercial, where they release thousands of those tiny superballs in the streets of San Francisco. They also came out with a commercial in which they launch paint firework type things in and around a building complex, of a variety of colors. Granted, I haven’t seen these commercials on television, but they’ve been circulating on the internet for quite some time now. I love them because they’re innovative, and fun, and they don’t have an in-your-face buy-me-now message.

But now, they are airing commercials on television. And the new angle is that Bravia is the television for men and women.
What?
Apparently, Bravia is the television that suits a man’s desire for performance, and a woman’s desire for style. Granted, so many commercials have these messages embedded in them, or the messages are made obvious, but for some reason these commercials just really rubbed me the wrong way.

This commercial presents alternate endings for men and women. Of course, the woman’s ending revolves around singing, dancing, shoes and shirtless men, and the man’s ending involves coaching football. In any case, I just thought I’d post them and get people’s thoughts. I think that the campaign would have been more effective if they had stuck with the neat-o superball/paint commercials, but maybe that’s just me.
