Dominos pizza

I heard that their has been controversy over the Brooklyn Style Pizza commercial by Dominos. People from Brooklyn find the stereotypes of heavily accented Brooklyners to be offensive and over the top. I heard that the mayor spoke out against the commercial, but couldn’t actually find anything on this over the net. Here is the link to the commercial:

On Dominos website they talk about the pizza advertising campaign by saying, “We found that Brooklyners like to eat their pizza differently. They like floppy, large slices, and they fold them into almost a sandwich. Brooklyn has such a big personality. It’s a little different than the Manhattan-style personality. We’re really having a lot of fun with the culture.”
The dominos website also currently has a contest associated with this pizza. The winner gets a trip to Las Vegas. Here is the contest as described on their website:
“all you've gotta do is show us your best Brooklyn Style imitation in a 30-second video. Dress Brooklyn Style, talk Brooklyn Style, fold a slice of Domino's Brooklyn Style Pizza, you get where we're goin' here, right, pal?”
Now here is what I found one Brooklyner had to say about the dominos website for this pizza:
“Jesus. That website is a hate crime. Seriously, if I pitched this thing as a commercial parody at MAD TV, I’d be in sensitivity class on Monday morning. Who directed this thing, the ghost of DW Griffin? Can you squeeze a couple of more Italian America stereotypes in there? Where’s the short guy with the bushy mustache eating a meatball?”

That is a lot of info on one commercial. I think that Brooklyners are sensitive about their pizza for starters. As far as Stereotypes go, yes they are definatly there, but this is true of 90% of commercials that try and depict a place. It is def. true of travel commercials. I suppose it is understandable that people who identify with Brooklyn are upset that as their city is being both linked with shity pizza, and a bad image.
