Welcome to Zac Miller's lecture on The Overview of the Production Process. This lecture will explore and break down each part of the filmmaking process from first conception to final edit. We will approach each topic from the pragmatic viewpoint of the student, but I'll also be discussing how the professional world approaches these same issues.

Homework Assignments

1. Read ANY ONE article from the current issue of American Cinematographer by going to http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/ac/ac0908/#/0

It will ask for a user name and password but under that it will say PREVIEW. Click Preview and the magazine will load. You will need flash in order to view it which can be downloaded for free. Find the table of contents at the upper left side of the page and read any one article. Turn the page by clicking the lower right side of the page.

2. Watch the very short "Legal Stuff" video and the "10 Tips" video from Current at http://current.com/make/training?section=shooting (These videos are about 3 min each)

3. Look at some of the "Professional" forms at the Chapman University production resource at http://ftv.chapman.edu/students/VPO/forms.cfm

This site has everything from SAG contracts to Location Agreements to blank call sheets. It is a great resource to keep.

4. Skim some of the "Movie Making Manual" WikiBook http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Movie_Making_Manual. It's a really good overview of pragmatic filmmaking. Look at the "production overview" and "Post-Production Overview" sections. Those sections are a good introduction to what we will be discussing in class.
