My track is film/video and I am interested in pursuing cross cultural filmmaking.

My Proposal:

1. This past summer I went to India and filmed a documentary on the influence of cable television over the Indian youth. I found that many kids are leaving the rural areas to get jobs in the cities because of the programs they are watching on television. Many people are worried that the village culture will eventually be lost because no one is sticking around to maintain their way of life. Though there is a concern, many people are excited about the transition. The interviews I conducted in the cities revealed that the urban population does not care if the village culture is destroyed, everyone agrees that there will always be transitions in society and as a result aspects of society are lost.

2. The purpose of this project is to show that the globalization of television can end the life of a beautiful culture within a decade.

3. This is a Documentary because I am dealing with a real village, in a real country, real people, and real television programs that everyone in the world can access with a television. The television programs that are being watched allow the audience to relate to the film if they are not in direct contact with the village I am filming.

4.
