Talk:Main Page
From Introduction to New Media
We're supposed to be carrying out a conversation here about what we want this wiki to turn into. Here's my best representation of the ideas we talked about in class last week:
1) encyclopedia of all things New Media
2) archive of everythng from the course so we can remember what we learn
3) experiment of interconnectedness of our own lives
4) encyclopedia of tech companies (or was it specifically Web 2.0 companies?)
Why don't we throw out our ideas about each under the following subsections. We can flesh out these ideas, or if anyone has any new ones, add a section for it.

experiment of interconnectedness of our own lives
From Wednesday’s class discussion, I really liked the idea about providing personal information from each student for our class wiki. I think it would be incredibly interesting to observe the connections and links offered among each individual, as we will find areas in our lives that we share in common. Most significantly, I think this will provide relevant evidence to the fact that our society, in present times, uses blogging and other forms of new media to form connections with other individuals. So maybe we can dive deeper into the idea providing class connections, by structuring our wiki page in a “blog-format” so we can express our understanding of blogs – why they exist, how they provide links between individuals, and how they have become vital to our everyday lives.

Sarah, What do you mean by structuring our wiki page in a "blog format?"
I am all for this idea provided what we produce has some depth to it. My initial reaction to the idea is that it could just be a ton of inane sentences like "we all have grandparents" or "we all live in the united states"

How do you suggest we give depth to this idea? I'm thinking the depth would all be dependent on how detailed we make our accounts. Even if we all start off with an inane sentence like "we all have grand-parents," or "we all live in the united states, " perhaps each set of grandparents originated from different parts of the world/America, so that we'd able to see the diverse history/family tree of each person.
I feel that this idea could really illustrate both our similarities and our cohesiveness as a group as well as giving room to express our individuality.

We will have to create time categories in order to give our interconnectedness some order. Examples of categories are "Before Pre-School," "Junior High School," etc. We can also break our lives down into actual ages. We will use ranges here as well like infants, childhood, teen, etc. Everyone will have to agree on what numerical ranges fall within these categories. I think this system can make our wiki more organized. You do not have to agree with me. I am just putting it out there.

encyclopedia of tech companies
encyclopedia of music
A whole representation of our music tastes as well as a representation of the artists we are willing to describe and write about. Perhaps, even sections concerning the concerts we have attended from the artists, how they represent themselves in their music videos and out on stage. Not merely just a description of artists, but a whole broad spectrum of the media used to advertise the musicians, and how they -music companies- manage to attract the youth, in most cases, rather than the grown ups. - Classic Kid
This is fun...
I've just been adding whatever I feel like. It's a great time-waster, and I'm (hopefully) helping my grade. (Though that "time-waster" comment probably just cost me several points.) ~Allnighter~
