Steve Silberman and today

Steve Silberman's article "We're Teen, We're Queer, and We've Got Email" really opened my eye into the world that queer teens used to have to struggle in. (I'm not saying they no longer struggle, but certainly today's society is much more excepting than that of which when this article was written.)

Professor Smith's Lecture

On Thursday morning at 11am in the Rose Hills Theatre at Pomona Professor Smith gave a lecture on Civil Rights, Cold Cases, and the media.

The thing that surprised me most was her discussion on the Civil Rights cold cases. These are cases that have gone "cold" because evidence has been lost, witnesses have died, etc. Well, recently criminal investigators have been taking a second look at these cold cases. In fact, accordingly to Ms. Smith, the Government has recently granted 10 million dollars to the reopening and and investigation of these cases from the Civil Rights Movement.

New Proposal

The fact that people are creating these alter-ego people to be online is really no surprise considering our society today.

Our society today, asks for a certain body type as well as personality in order to "fit in." Simply by analyzing our magazines and TV shows and movies this type of person is revealed. For girls this means, skinny, fit, tan, and longish hair. For guys this means suave, dark hair, tale, tan, masculine etc.

proposal

this is a vague idea for sure and certainly needs more discussion in order to make it more concrete, but i was thinking i wanted to analyze the website Facebook. My project would be a creative one because i would create a Facebook group and see how many days it took for that group to have 100000 members. I'm pretty sure those groups are so massively spread that i can get that amount of people very shortly. This would certainly comment on our society's youth and their way of communication these days and in all honestly, how advanced it is.
