"Facebook is not just an addiction--it's a disease"

Just wondering how one site can change people's lives dramatically. I found this while serfing for information for my midterm project. It's interesting how mere websites in itself can act as a new form of technology. Earlier, it had to be physical change, or somewhat physical. But now, the online realm can act as a catalyst for change.

Well, I guess it all starts from the computer. It opened horizons no one has ever imagined. Ranging from downloading illegally to buying and selling products on ebay.

But to me, it seems like the pace of discovery is slowing down drastically. Rather than actually opening new options, we just try to improve what we have, constantly making things smaller or faster. It seems to me that innovation is not really happening.

So how can the online realm act as a catalyst again? I for one do not know. Maybe someone will come up with a virtual reality where our 5 senses can actually interact. For obvious reasons this would hold A LOT of controversy (adultery online?), but wouldn't it be weird if you could actually LIVE in another dimension? Technically you'd still need to feed yourself, but what if people got machines to do that for you? Social networking is a big deal, so I really don't think I'm thinking too science fiction. If something as simple as facebook could conjure a fad this big, imagine what another reality would do. Just the thought of a person getting trapped in this virtual world is scary in itself. Honestly, I'd be scared if something like this were to develop. Mind control etc. slightly scary.
