A few sample projects that you might want to take a look at:

-- Last year, one student created a fan video, posted it on various video sharing sites, and wrote about the process and the connections of the project to the course's material.

-- Another student, as I said, built a really extensive navigable 3-D film-based narrative. This was a standalone file, built in Blender.

-- Another student, who was a poet, built a hypertext poetry website. (Unfortunately, it's now gone.)

-- Most of the rest of the class took the critical project option, writing about a range of different websites and technologies that they were interested in.

I've also taught a class called "Writing Machines" a couple of different times, and students in those classes were also given the creative project option. Last semester:

-- One student built a hypertext about chaos and creation, with a "meta" hypertext thinking about the process of making the site.

-- Another student built a hypertext about the Arachne myth from Ovid's Metamorphoses.

-- A third built a hypertext about the Quetico, in which one navigates the Quetico through its appearances in poetry and prose, as well as the author's own musings.

-- A fourth built a hypertext version of The Little Prince.

The year before, there were lots of creative projects. Unfortunately, most of the students in that class have graduated, so their user spaces have gone away. But you should be able to get to at least a few of the projects here.

The possibilities are pretty wide open: the creative option asks you to make something using digital media technologies. Is there a story you want to tell? A new mode of interacting you want to model? Some creative way of thinking through a problem you've been puzzling about?

It's entirely up to you what you do with this project -- it just needs to be something that you're willing to get invested in, something you care about, something you want to do really, really well...
