myspace/facebook

reading response 2

The changing ideas of public and private discussed in class raised my awareness on the issue of how children perceive the two. Based on the childhood that I received growing up, private and public were two very distinct..contrasting and opposite ideas. Today it seems as if these two idea have come together and blended to be seen as one. It is assumed that if one's myspace page is set to private...strangers will not be able to view the entire profile page while if public, people are allowed to see all.

Frustrated

After last weeks class discussion over the three essays we read i found myself at last very frustrated. This frustration stems from the annoyance at the common known fact that Americans are always over reacting- suing each other at the very least bit of disturbance. More specifically my example for this matter would be the Facebook and MySpace privacy policy. It really urges me when people complain about having no privacy when they are the ones putting their information out there on the internet. I mean dah! people are going to have your information if you give it to them! No shit!

facebook profiling

The topic of Facebook profiling reminds me of a study a group of students conducted in my psychology course last semester. The group observed the effect of online social networks on perception. They took several real Facebook profiles and changed the profile information and picture. This new Facebook profile belonged to an imaginary person. Based on the appearance of these individuals and the content of their personal information, you could form an idea of what type of person these people were.

The Talk

Myspace, the big huge danger. There has been a lot of talk about myspace like websites recently and their dangers to children. At my high school last year we heard a long theatrical presentation on all of the dangers of myspace and how if we used it we would DIE. After that talk I couldn't help criticizing all the young girls foolish enough to broadcast their sexuality in the profile pictures. They didn't know what I was told in that talked, that even after deleting those photos they would be tracable.
