What'd I miss?

[edit: Never mind. I ran into someone who caught me up. I'm keeping the post up here for the Le Guin link below]
I was down in San Diego during class today. Could someone give me a super-brief run-down of what we talked about? (e.g. The impact of Black=normal on racial/political relations in Left Hand of Darkness, Le Guin's treatment of gender as ____, Soviet Union/USA metaphors, or whatever we ended up discussing). Thanks much!

Also, found this:
http://www.slate.com/id/2111107/

It has to do with a different series (the Earthsea books... pretty awesome), and I haven't actually seen the miniseries, but it seemed applicable (it's about how the directors screwed up the video version, particularly related to race). It also briefly mentioned the impact of a novel's cover-art, something I think is really important (it's where we get our first description of the characters).

Speaking of missing class, I wasn't in on Wed. and was wondering what all happened during the discussion about the book as well as Barbarella. Thanks!
