in `The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction` (Das Kunstwerk im Zeitalter seiner technischen Reproduzierbarkeit), written in 1936, Walter Benjamin discusses the place of original art in a time when anything and everything can and is copied. He specifically discusses how pieces of original art have `auras,` which are diminished each time the work of art is copied and therefore loses some of its originality. This article is one of Benjamin's most-read works.
