Authorial intent

From MarxWiki

The ability to determine what the author of a text is attempting to communicate is nearly impossible, because even the author may or may not have intended for certain meanings but they may be inferred. The questions of encoding and decoding and the use of language in a text are ways in which the reader may be able to understand something about it, or even analyze it, but there is no way to say for sure that an author intended to do what is being taken as the meaning of a text.
