Barthes
From MarxWiki
Roland Barthes, 1915-1980, was a profound French social and literary critic. A structuralist, Barthes explored the importance of semiotics in language and literature. Barthes writing on the death of the author and `textuality` contributed to profound debate during the later part of the 20th century. Deriving his methodology and structuralism from Ferdinand de Saussure, among other people, Barthes' works explore complex relationships between the author, reader, and text. He was a member of the Tel quel collective and published numerous books and articles, includeing The Pleasure of the Text, Elements of Semiology, Criticism and Truth, and the curiously funny autobiography Roland Barthes by Roland Barthes.
