Colonialism
From MarxWiki
Colonialism refers to the historical practice of European nations--particularly England, France, Spain, and to some extent, Belgium-- to occupy and control undeveloped areas in the world, especially in South America and Africa. Colonies were occupied by European powers to establish their empires, and often used to provide the controlling nations with raw materials. This occupation took place at a material level (the presence of the colonialists) and at an ideological level (the imposition of legal systems, etc, to justify the occupation.) Frantz Fanon says `The colonial world is divided into compartments`; that of the colonizer, and that of the colonized.
