Commodity
From MarxWiki
Commodity: An article of trade or commerce, especially an agricultural or mining product that can be processed and resold. Advantage, benefit. Commodities are the basis for a capitalist society because capitalist nations are grounded in supply and demand, commercialism, and commercial interaction. Members of a capitalist society discover their commodity self through their personal commodities. Example: Rappers become commodities when they become mainstream because they market themselves, in this case losing their credit within the original subculture.
Authors discussing commodities and their properties include: Marx, The Communist Manifesto, "Commodities"; Tricia Rose, "Rap Music and Rap Culture."
