Intelligentsia

Intelligentsia: a social class comprised of the intellectual members of society (scientists, artists, professors, etc.). The term originated in pre-revolutionary Russia where it had a slightly different meaning. The Russian intelligentsia were marked by their faith in revolution, atheism, and materialism rather than their profession, and boasted members such as Lenin and Stalin.
