Parody
From MarxWiki
Parody, a less kindhearted version of pastiche, is a form of satire where texts imitate other texts, typically in order to ridicule them. Parody fits in well with the cynical tone of postmodernism, and shines new light on Benjamin's theories of The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction, in which objects d'art that are reproduced loose their `aura` of originality. On the one hand, parodies certainly diminish the auras of original works, but on the other hand, has a television show really gotten anywhere until it has been parodied on Saturday Night Live?
Other contemporary culture examples of parody include Mel Brooks's `Spaceballs,` which parodies `Star Wars,` and just about any song by Wierd Al Yankovic, which parody contemporary culture in general and popular songs in particular.
