Popular culture
From MarxWiki
Popular culture is a problematic field becasue it is usually defined in opposition to a `legitimate` culture of the intelligentsia. The boundaries of the popular are fluid, and the construction of the popular is always the site of an ongoing struggle. The content of popular culture, as well as its audience, is continually shifting. Popular culture subscribes to structures of public taste and consumption.
Traditionally, popular culture has been thought of as `low art.` It is looked down upon both by proponents of `high art` and by subcultures who believe that popular culture represents the dominant ideology and must be resisted against.
