Relations of Force
From MarxWiki
In `Gramsci's Relevance for the Study of Race and Ethnicity` Stuart Hall lays out his interpretation of Gramsci's writings, then uses Gramsci's theorizations to analyize how we think about race and racism.
Relations of Force Gramsci differentiates the relations of force (movements of historical forces that constitute political and social struggle and development) into different moments and assumes `no necessary teleological (Teleology = `Belief in or the perception of purposeful development towards an end, as in nature or history.`) evolution between these moments` So historical forces happen at specific moments that are not assumed (or `determined`) to be connected to a historical developmental process towards an end result. This is important because when we're talking about classes in Marxism, its imporant to note that `class unity` should never be assumed, because other historical forces at specific moments fragment `classes` with other conflicting interests (like racism. but we'll get to that later).
