Tricia Rose

Tricia Rose is the author of Black Noise: Rap Music and Black Culture in Contemporary America, which was awarded an American Book Award in 1995 by the Before Columbus Foundation and was featured as one of the top 25 books of 1994 by the Village Voice. Rose is Professor of American Studies at the University of California at Santa Cruz. She focuses on issues of gender as well as African-American culture and politics in her work. In 1994, Rose co-edited Microphone Fiends: Youth Music and Youth Culture. Her essays, which cover a range of topics including American culture, black popular music, and sexism, have appeared in various book collections, journals, and magazines.
