War of position

Discussed by Gramsci in the Prison Notebooks. War of position changes or replaces the dominant hegemony, it is an ideological battle which requires the consent of all the classes. A war of position is continued over a long period of time. It is not about specific instances. War of position must occur for a war of maneuver to work. It is not enough to seize certain political or military institutions (as entailed in a war of maneuver).
