Is it really a space?

What does the concept of "space" refer to on the main page? That specific page? The wiki? The conglomeration of sites involved in this class? To what degree are we supposed to edit this site and to what degree is KF the admin? --pseudoanonymity 00:35, 14 September 2006 (EDT)

The "space" question is provocative; we need better metaphors. (Actually, I've given a series of conference papers about the problems of the space metaphor, so you'd think I'd be more careful!) But yeah, I meant the wiki as a whole. You guys are the writers and editors; I'm the admin only insofar as I've got the keys to the engine. --KF 13:11, 16 September 2006 (PDT)

We anticipate that this proceeds in a relatively undirected way, but we seem to need something to kick things off. Since we don't intend to make this about the wide world, we probably need to define a topic. Should that topic be

1) Electronic writing (meaning writing intended to be read or consumed in eformat) 2) Electronic literature (eformat writing that works in ways related to poetry, fiction, drama, or similar) 3) Electronic discourse (the above + lots of stuff eliminated by the term "writing" -- games, pix, mp3's, avi's, flash animation without alphanumeric or character-based language) 4) Some better-defined version of any of the above 5) Some subset of one or more of the above. 6) Something else, but something?
